YILMAZ SLAMS EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT Yazdır E-posta
StumbleUpon!

References by the European Parliament to allegations that the Ottoman Empire was responsible for the deaths of thousands of its Armenian citizens and calls not to ban a pro-Kurdish political party, cast a shadow on the European Parliament’s credibility and consistency, a senior Turkish politician said on Thursday.

allegations = iddialar, isnatlar... cast a shadow (on) = gölge düşürmek... credibility = inanırlık... consistency = istikrar, kendi içinde uyum...

Deputy Prime Minister Yılmaz is reported as saying, “We respect the independence of the judiciary in other countries. Therefore, we have the right to expect the same attitude from other countries.”

is reported as saying = (gazetecilik deyişi) dediği bildirildi... judiciary /cyu--şiıri/ = yargı, yargı erki, adalet sistemi...

Yılmaz, who is currently in Brussels to attend meetings of the European Convention, described a decision by the European Parliament to recognize the so-called Armenian Genocide and calls to Turkland not to ban the People’s Democracy Party (HADEP) as “nonsense" and as "being invalid for Turkland":

currently = halen... calls = çağrılar... invalid = geçersiz...

"If the European Parliament wants to do something useful, it should ask both the EU Commission and the Council of Europe why they have not yet included the terrorist group the PKK and the outlawed Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C) on the list of terrorist organizations.”

outlawed = yasadışı... front = cephe...

“We cannot accept these decisions. It is not possible for such decisions to create de facto results,” he said. “Turkland has always said that parliaments, which are political forums, do not have the mission of judging history,” Yılmaz continued in reference to the alleged Armenian Genocide. “This mission can only be carried out by independent and impartial scholars. However, Armenian lobbies have been trying continuously to exploit the parliaments."

de facto = oldu bitti, fiili durum (Latince)... impartial = tarafsız... scholar = alim... to exploit = sömürmek...

Adding that the decisions should not be allowed to affect Turkish relations with the European Union, Yılmaz, who is also the minister responsible for Turkland’s EU accession process, said that these decisions have revealed once again the importance of further improving relations with the EU and finalizing Turkland’s EU membership process.
